Hi, my name is Josalyn, and this is my review of Rugged Maniac running it as a 5th grader. I have run many races now, and this one was my favorite! My dad had to ask someone important to see if I could run the race because you have to be a teenager normally. I am ten, so we promised to have someone run with me. My dad’s friend Mr. Josh kept me safe and pushed me the whole race. For my review I will talk about four things. They will be the running competitive, the obstacles, bling, and the place.
I like trying to run very fast, so I ran in the first bunch. Getting the thing for my shoe took a long time and I am not sure why they did not give it to us when we got our bibs. We had to wait in a second line for it. The start is kind of scary because so many tall people are there, but they were all very nice. I did notice some people would fail at an obstacle and not do burpees or even try it again. No one would tell them to stop. Hopefully they did not get medals!
The obstacles were the funnest ones I have ever seen! My favorite one was the trampoline one where we bounced and grabbed the net. I did not think I would see a trampoline in the middle of a mud run so it was super fun! I wanted to play on that again later, but I did not. I also liked the one where you walked up the wood and it tipped over. I was able to run up and jump off when it fell and other people were going very slow. This let me get past some people! My third favorite was the warped wall. My dad was there and told me to “trust my training”. He says that a lot. I ran as hard as I could and made it to the people at the top! Everyone clapped for me and it made me feel so good!
The bling is all of the stuff you get when you run a race. Like the shirts and the medals and sometimes hats too. The medal was pretty cool and I liked that it looked like the race sign. The size is average. I also won a gold medal for first place 21 and under for females. That medal is WAY better than the other medal! It is heavier and bigger and has a better look. I got more bling for winning. They gave me money to spend on their stuff and a free entry to race again! I got mom the shorts and Mr. Josh a hat. The shirts were nice. The girl shirt has a girl on it and the boy shirt has a boy. That is the first time I saw that and it is nice. The girl shirt looks better than the boy shirt!
The place is like where the race is. I was sad that we were not allowed to put the tents up on the hill. We had to put them on the bottom. This means we were not near the music or the food. We did not get any food there because we had to buy tickets and can’t just give money for food. The stage was cool and I liked watching the pie contest! It was funny watching adults be silly. There was a bull riding thing that looked fun too. I did not want to ride it but I liked watching other people do it. I think this race had lots of stuff people could do after they were done.
Overall, it was a really awesome race. It was SO much fun and I liked that they let me run in the race. The best obstacles I have seen and they were really fun for kids. I am happy it was a 5k and not too much longer than that because it was a hot day. I want to do it again! Hope to see you all soon!
