Obstacle Course Races are currently all over the globe. No matter where you live, there is a good chance there will be an OCR within driving distance at some point this year. There are bigger named, more common races, and there are smaller local event put on. Out of all of the courses across the globe, here are a few that you should definitely give a chance if you have the opportunity to do so.
5. The Warrior Race (SA)
The Warrior Race is the largest obstacle course race series in South Africa. They host eight events (varying three distances) throughout four provinces. This is an event that is set out to put your mind, body, and spirit to the test. The course is intended to teach you to be brave and overcome the challenges you may face. Voted the best international OCR runner up by Mud Run Guide for 2017; this is an event to leave you wet, dirty, laughing, crying, and ready to do it all over again.
4. Operation Blackhawk (AU)
Welcome to Australia’s Battlefield Challenge. This event is suitable for all levels of fitness and is a 7K course designed as a military themed challenge. All participants are dressed in cameo and given a mission brief and a workout warm up before the event. Run, walk, climb, and crawl your way through this event for a fun and memorable time.
3. Rat Race Dirty Weekend (UK)
Located at Burghley in England, this is the Worlds largest obstacle course race. This event brings you 200 obstacles across 20 miles of fun and adventure. Experience unique obstacles that you haven’t seen at other events in addition to some more traditional ones. Think you have what it takes to take on the worlds longest monkey bars? Think you can keep from giggling while on the Rat Hopper? Ready to swing, crawl, climb, scoot, slide, jump, run, laugh, scream, and dig deep? This is the event for you.
2. World’s Toughest Mudder (USA/can change)
World’s Toughest Mudder is a 24 hour challenge. This is an event for participants to take on whatever challenge they set for themselves. Everyone has the opportunity to set their own goals for mileage while there is also the opportunity for racers to “compete” for a top spot if they wish to. Starting 2017, participants who wish to be a contender for prize money at WTM must first complete 25 miles at a Toughest Mudder (8 hour overnight obstacle course) prior to the event. Think you are ready to take on 24 hours of mud, sweat, and tears?
1. OCRWC (CA/can change)
The OCR World Championships is an event that is set to unite, promote, and increase the participation in obstacle course races. This event brings the top competitors from across the globe to compete on a course that is built from obstacles from around the world. There are four different event options over this race weekend. Participants are required to qualify for this championship if they intend on participating for age group or as an elite. There is a journeyman/woman option available to those who have completed in at least four OCR events through the year, and these participants do not need to qualify at a specific race prior.
