1,000 Strong Overcoming Obstacles

The 1,000 Strong Overcoming Obstacles event is a trail race held at Patriot Park in Victoria, Texas. The course features both on and off-road sections and is mowed starting in February each year to prepare for the event. Participants can choose between two main formats:

  • 5k: A traditional trail run or walk without obstacles.
  • Obstacle 5k: A trail run featuring permanent structures, pop-up challenges, and mud pits.

The obstacle course includes specific elements such as a pressure wall, monkey bars, and mud pits. Participants have the option to skip an obstacle by performing 20 burpees. If an attendee cannot complete an obstacle or the burpees, they must surrender their race bracelet to a volunteer, which disqualifies them from receiving an award but allows them to finish the course. Teams are permitted to help one another but must cross the finish line together.

The venue hosts health and wellness vendors as well as food trucks for participants and spectators. Recognition is given to the first three finishers in both adult and youth categories for each race type. Event proceeds go toward Restoration House Ministries to support local community restoration efforts. Access to the park is restricted to specific routes via Highway 59 or Highway 236 as certain local roads undergo closure during the event.
