Event overview
The MCRD San Diego Boot Camp Challenge is a festival and obstacle race held at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, 3800 Chosin Ave, San Diego, CA. The event features a 3-mile course that includes obstacle types such as tunnel crawls, log hurdles, a 6-foot climbing wall, and cargo net crawls. More than 60 Marine Corps drill instructors are positioned along the course to encourage participants. The course permits missed or incomplete obstacles with no penalties. Spectator admission to the festival is free. The festival area includes live music, vendor booths, a beer garden, K-9 demonstrations, static displays, camouflage face painting, and interactive virtual games.
Entry, categories and logistics
The event is open to participants aged 14 and older. Entry options include individual categories (youth, adult, active duty) and 3-person team categories (male, female, coed, corporate, ROTC). Awards are given to the top three finishers in each individual age category and to the top three teams in each 3-person team category; teams must cross the finish line together to qualify for awards and official times. Registration closes October 15, 2025. Race packets and participant shirts are available for pick up at designated tents on event day. Two water stations and medical staff/tent are provided along the course and at the venue. No entry fee refunds are offered; transfers and substitutions are allowed per event rules.
