Event

The North American Wife Carrying Championship® is scheduled for October 10, 2026. It is the 26th annual running of the event and takes place at Sunday River in Newry, Maine. The competition is part of the venue's Fall Fest weekend. Teams race on foot through a short obstacle course.

Teams run a 278-yard obstacle course that includes log hurdles, a sand trap, and a water hazard called the "Widow Maker." The event uses qualifying rounds; the fastest two teams from qualifying advance to a final heat to compete for the championship. Prizes include the wife's weight in beer and five times her weight in cash.

The event location is 15 South Ridge Road, Newry, ME 04261, United States. Teams do not have to be legally married, but each team must consist of one man and one woman.
