Tough Mountain Challenge
Tough Mountain Challenge is an outdoor obstacle race held at Sunday River Resort in Newry, Maine on July 25, 2026. The main course is a roughly 5K route set on ski trails, wooded terrain, and natural mountain features.
The route includes custom-built obstacles and a variety of features such as mud pits, water crossings, walls, tires, ropes, and slides. The event supplies food and beverage elements on site, including beer for adults. Multiple heat waves run across the day rather than a single mass start.
The event has run since 2010 and draws around 3,600 competitors annually. There is a separate Mini Mountain Challenge for children with registration opening later in the year.
